Before They Were Stars: Destiny’s Child

As you may know, Destiny’s Child has changed members numerous times, but the two veterans of the group are Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland. Before they were known as Destiny’s Child, the group was originally named Girl’s Tyme which consisted of 6 group members: Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, Támar Davis (who went to work with Prince for awhile and is currently working with Tyler Perry), and sisters Nikki Taylor and Nina Taylor.

After Girl’s Tyme performed on Star Search and did not advance, Támar Davis and the Taylor sisters left the group and LeToya Luckett joined the group and they were called Destiny’s Child. Since almost everyone has seen the home videos of Girl’s Tyme performing and Destiny’s Child auditioning for Columbia Records, I wanted to show a music video of LaTavia and Beyoncé called “One Time.” Watch the video HERE.

After Destiny’s Child came out with their albums titled Destiny’s Child and The Writing’s on the Wall, LaTavia and LeToya decided to split from Matthew Knowles as their manager not Destiny’s Child, however when the video for “Say My Name” came out they found out that they had been replaced by Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. Then Farrah left because of the negativity surrounding the group. Then there were 3 members left and that’s how it remained until 2006 when Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle disbanded. I couldn’t decide between “Lose My Breath” and “Solider,” so I left you with both videos to enjoy.
